Danish Pastry Apple Bars - cooking recipe

2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg yolk
1 c. crushed corn flakes
8 to 10 tart apples, pared and sliced (8 c.)
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
2 to 3 tsp. milk
1 egg white
Preparation

Combine flour and salt and cut in shortening.
Beat egg yolk in measuring cup; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid.
Mix well.
Stir in flour mixture.
On floured surface, roll half of dough.
Measure 17 x 12-inch rectangle.
Sprinkle in corn flakes; top with apples.
Combine sugar and cinnamon.
Sprinkle on the apples.
Roll dough to 15 x 10-inch rectangle; place over apples and seal.
Cut slits.
Beat egg white until frothy; brush on crust.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 50 minutes.
Drizzle powdered sugar and milk, combined, when cool.
