Ingredients

1 c. scalded milk
1/4 c. potato water (warm)
1 yeast cake
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt or less
1 c. mashed potatoes
2 beaten eggs
4 1/2 c. flour
4 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
Preparation

Combine milk, shortening and salt.
Cool.
Dissolve yeast in warm potato water.
Add mashed potatoes and dissolved yeast to milk mixture.
Blend eggs, allspice and cornstarch, then add flour, blending constantly.
Cover with moist dishtowel and let rise.
Place dough on floured board and knead.
Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with doughnut cutter.
Place on buttered large cookie sheet and let rise.
Bake at 425\u00b0 until browned.
May brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
