French Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. yellow onions, sliced
    1/4 to 1/2 c. water
    black pepper
    1/2 c. red wine
    6 c. beef broth
    bay leaf
    hard French bread, sliced
    grated Swiss or Mozzarella cheese
Preparation
    Put water in large pot.
    Add sliced onions.
    Cook until onions are translucent.
    Add beef broth, wine, pepper and bay leaf. Simmer until hot.
