Congealed Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 small pkg. or 1 large pkg. Jell-O brand gelatin, any flavor
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. cold water
    ice cubes
    1 3/4 c. thawed Cool Whip nondairy whipped topping
    1 c. fruit, drained or 1 c. sliced or diced fresh fruit
Preparation
    Completely dissolve gelatin in boiling water.
    Combine cold water and ice cubes to make 2 1/2 cups.
    Add to gelatin.
    Stir until slightly thickened.
    Remove any unmelted ice.
    Measure 1 cup of the gelatin.
    Fold into whipped topping.
    Pour into 8-inch square pan.
    Chill about 10 minutes.
    Add fruit to remaining gelatin; gently spoon over creamy layer in pan.
    Chill until firm (about 3 hours).
    Cut into squares.
    Garnish as desired.
