Lima Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 lb. bacon (in small pieces)
    1 small onion, chopped
    1 c. lima beans
    1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes
    2 or 3 bay leaves
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Soak the lima beans in water overnight to soften or boil on stove top until soft.
    In a large saucepan, brown the bacon together with the onion.
    Drain excess grease.
    Add lima beans, tomatoes, bay leaves, salt and pepper.
    Simmer until beans are tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
    Top each bowl with Parmesan cheese to serve.
