Caramel Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 small apples
    2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Wash and dry apples; remove stems.
    Insert wooden skewers into stem end of each apple; set aside.
