Rouge Camion Feu(Red Velvet Cake) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 1/4 cups sugar
    2 ounces red food coloring
    2 teaspoon cocoa
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 cup buttermilk
    2 1/2 cups sifted flour
    1 teaspoon soda
    1 teaspoon white vinegar
Preparation
    Mix soda and vinegar.
    Set aside.
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
    Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring in a cup and add to sugar, eggs and shortening mixture.
    Add buttermilk with salt, flour and vanilla.
    Mix well.
    Fold in vinegar and soda mixture carefully but well.
    Bake in two nine inch pans at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
    Split cooled layers and ice between layers and on top. Decorate with colored coconut, nuts, etc. as desired.
