German Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/3 c. sugar
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
    1 egg yolk
    6 medium apples, peeled and sliced
    1/3 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1 egg white, beaten stiffly
Preparation
    Combine flour, sugar and salt together.
    Cut in butter.
    Add lemon rind and egg yolk.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Press into greased 9-inch cake pan (sides and bottom).
    Mix apples with sugar and cinnamon. Fold in beaten egg white. Spread evenly over dough. Bake in a 400\u00b0 oven for 40 minutes.
