Black Walnut Pound Cake - cooking recipe

3 c. sugar
2 sticks butter or margarine
1/2 c. shortening
5 eggs
1/2 tsp. rum or black walnut flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1 c. chopped black walnuts
Preparation

Cream sugar, butter or margarine and shortening until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add flavoring and beat again.
Mix 1/4 cup of flour with nutmeats and put aside.
Combine remaining flour with baking powder and add alternately with milk to egg mixture.
Fold in floured walnuts. Put into greased and floured tube pan.
Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Do not open oven during the first hour.
