Never Fail Meringue - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 egg whites
    1/8 tsp. salt
    5 to 6 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. water
    1 tsp. cornstarch
    2 tsp. sugar
Preparation
    Combine 2 teaspoons sugar and cornstarch in water in glass measuring cup.
    Microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, stirring every 20 to 30 seconds until mixture is clear and thick.
    (Watch closely in microwave so it doesn't boil over.)
    Cool slightly.
    Beat egg whites with salt and vanilla until soft peaks form. Gradually, add remaining sugar.
    Stir in cornstarch mixture gradually and beat until meringue stands in stiff peaks.
