Latin Beans And Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 slices bacon
    1/4 c. chopped onion
    1/4 c. chopped green pepper (bell)
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1/2 (6 oz. size) can tomato paste
    1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans (undrained)
    1/2 tsp. oregano leaves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
    1 c. water
    hot cooked white or brown rice
Preparation
    In a heavy skillet or saucepan, fry the bacon until soft and crisp.
    Add onion and green pepper; saute, stirring, until limp. Add garlic.
    Stir in tomato paste.
    Add kidney beans, oregano, salt, pepper and water.
    Heat mixture to boiling; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring now and then, until gravy thickens slightly.
    Serve over white or brown rice.
    Makes 4 servings.
