Fanny Farmer Fudge - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. white sugar
    1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk
    1 lb. butter or oleo
    3 tsp. vanilla
    3 c. chocolate chips
    1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Bring sugar and milk to a boil in large pan over medium heat. Boil 6 minutes, stirring constantly.
    Remove from heat.
    Add butter, vanilla and chips.
    Beat with electric hand mixer on high until all is blended.
    Add nuts, if desired.
    Pour into buttered 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
    Put in refrigerator overnight.
    Cut in squares and keep in covered container in refrigerator.
