Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers
    8 medium onions
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    2 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers, onions and salt with ice and let stand 3 hours, then drain.
    In a large boiler, put sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and turmeric.
    Let this come to a boil.
    Add the cucumbers and onions.
    Let this boil.
    Add cinnamon and cloves to taste.
    Put in jars and seal.
