Mellowscotch Pie - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 Tbsp. water
2 c. cold milk
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
4 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Mix sugar, water, and salt in top of double boiler.
Boil over medium heat to a thick syrup (5 minutes).
Mix 1/2 cup milk and cornstarch to a thin paste.
Add 1 3/4 cups milk, combine with hot syrup and cook over hot water until thick and smooth.
Continue to cook 15 minutes longer, stirring constantly.
Stir small amount in beaten egg yolks, add to mixture, and cook a few minutes longer. Add butter and vanilla.
Pour in 9-inch pie shell.
Top with meringue and brown.
