Autumn Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. hamburger
    1 to 2 Tbsp. fat
    1 c. chopped onion
    4 c. hot water
    1 c. carrots, chopped
    1 c. celery, chopped
    1 c. potatoes, chopped
    2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. meat extract
    crumbled bay leaf
    pinch of basil
    6 whole tomatoes (may substitute juice)
Preparation
    Brown beef in fat.
    Add onions.
    Cook 5 minutes.
    Add water, vegetables and seasonings; mix.
    Boil.
    Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
    Add tomatoes.
    Cover and simmer for 10 minutes more.
