Old-Time Tomato Preserves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 lb. firm ripe tomatoes
    8 c. sugar
    1 orange, sliced thin
    1 lemon, sliced thin
Preparation
    Peel and quarter tomatoes.
    Cover with sugar.
    Allow to stand overnight.
    Drain off syrup.
    Heat to a boil.
    Cook until syrup spins a thread (232\u00b0).
    Add tomatoes and orange and lemon slices. Cook over low heat until tomato is transparent.
    Seal in hot, sterilized glasses.
    Makes 12 (6 ounce) glasses.
