Cracker Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. milk
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 c. saltine crackers, crushed
    1/2 c. coconut (optional)
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Heat milk until very hot.
    Mix 2 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar and cornstarch.
    Stir together until a smooth paste forms.
    Add the paste mixture to the hot milk and cook well.
    Add crushed saltine crackers, coconut (if desired) and vanilla.
    Stir well.
    Put mixture into 1-quart baking dish.
    Beat 2 egg whites and 4 tablespoons sugar until stiff peaks form.
    Put on top of custard and bake in 400\u00b0 oven until light brown.
