Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. (slightly stale) bread or cake
    4 eggs
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. sugar
    stewed dried apricots or tart jelly or prepared pie filling
Preparation
    Cut bread or cake into cubes and put into casserole dish.
    Beat 3 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg (reserve 3 egg whites).
    Add sugar, milk and vanilla.
    Mix well.
    Pour over bread, making sure all cubes are covered.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 approximately 45 minutes or until set.
    Take out and cover with fruit.
    Beat egg whites until stiff, adding 2 teaspoons sugar.
    Cover fruit with this meringue and return casserole to oven for approximately 10 to 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown.
