9 Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    pickles
    salt water
    1 c. vinegar
    2 heaping Tbsp. alum
    sugar
    vinegar
    whole allspice
    cinnamon sticks
Preparation
    Scrub pickles and place in salt water strong enough to float an egg.
    Let set 3 days.
    On the third day, drain and place pickles in clean water and soak three days.
    On the sixth day, drain and slice pickles and make a solution of 1 cup vinegar, alum and enough water to cover pickles.
    Heat in this solution until water turns green, then drain.
    For each 2 gallons of pickles, make syrup of 8 cups of sugar, 1 quart of vinegar, 2 tablespoons whole allspice and 1 1/2 sticks of cinnamon.
    Pour syrup over pickles while hot, let stand 3 days then heat pickles in syrup and can in jars.
