Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers
    fresh head of dill
    1/4 tsp. powdered alum
    1 Tbsp. pickling spice or clove garlic (optional)
    3 c. water
    1 c. vinegar
    1/8 c. pickling salt (use only pickling salt)
Preparation
    Pack washed, small cucumbers (3 to 4-inches long) as perpendicularly as possible in quart or half-gallon jars.
    Before packing cucumbers into jars, put a fresh head of dill in bottom of jar.
    Then place one on top.
    Put powdered alum in top of each jar.
