Black Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dry black beans
    2 medium onions, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    2 tsp. paprika
    3 tsp. cumin
    1/4 tsp. chili powder
    3 bay leaves
    a few grinds black pepper
    1/2 c. dry red wine or 1/2 c. fruit juice
    5 c. water or chicken broth
    salt to taste
Preparation
    Bring beans to a boil in twice as much water as beans.
    Boil for 2 minutes.
    Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.
    Drain.
