Green Tomato Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 medium size tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. salt
    2 c. soft bread crumbs
    1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
    1 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
Preparation
    Arrange one layer of tomato slices in the bottom of a lightly greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Combine sugar, salt and pepper, mixing well. Sprinkle tomatoes with about 1/3 each of sugar mixture, bread crumbs and cheese. Repeat layers of tomato slices, sugar mixture and bread crumbs (omit the cheese). Dot with butter or margarine over the top of casserole. Cover and bake at 400\u00b0 for 1 hour. Add remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
