5 Tbsp. butter
3 large sliced baking apples
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Karo syrup
1 tsp. cinnamon
8 (1-inch) thick slices French bread
3 large eggs
1 c. milk
1 tsp. almond extract
Preparation

The day before, melt together in large heavy pan butter.
Add apple slices and cook until tender.
Add brown sugar, corn syrup and cinnamon to apples.
Cook until sugar dissolves.
Pour into 13 x 9-inch pan.
Arrange bread slices in 1 layer on top of the apples.
In medium bowl, beat eggs, milk and almond extract.
Pour over bread.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake until brown on top at 375\u00b0 (about 35 minutes).
