Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers (small), sliced thin
    1/2 c. salt
    1 c. water
    2 trays ice cubes
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers with the salt, water and ice cubes and let stand for 3 hours.
    Make a syrup of the remaining ingredients. Boil syrup mixture for 5 minutes. Drain cucumbers. Drop in boiling syrup but do not boil after adding cucumbers.
    Pack in sterilized jars and seal.
