Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk
    1 c. bread crumbs
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 egg or 2 yolks
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Scald milk in a double boiler.
    Break up bread, pressing gently until cup is full. Add milk with butter and sugar and let stand until cool. Add egg, flavoring and salt.
    Place in greased baking dish and bake in moderate oven for 1 hour.
    Make meringue, if desired.
