Meringue Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. shortening
    3 egg yolks
    1 Tbsp. water
    2 c. flour, sifted
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 pkg. chips
    1 c. chopped walnuts
    3 egg whites
    1 c. brown sugar
Preparation
    Cream the 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar and shortening.
    Add the water and egg yolks.
    Add the flour, baking powder and soda.
    Beat well and press into flat greased pan.
    Sprinkle with the chips and walnuts.
    Beat the egg whites until stiff.
    Add the brown sugar and spread lightly over the chips and nuts.
    Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 25 minutes.
    Cool and cut into bars.
