Christmas Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. shortening
    2 c. hot applesauce
    2 rounded tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. each: cloves, cinnamon and mace
    3 1/2 c. plain wheat flour or barley flour
    1 c. each: broken walnuts, pecans and almonds
    1 (14 oz.) pkg. coconut
    2 lb. glazed fruit mix
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Beat soda into hot applesauce; stir and thoroughly mix with sugar and shortening.
    Add spices, nuts, fruit and flour in order given.
    This should be very thick and heavy batter.
    If mixture is too thin, just add more flour. Grease and flour pan or baking dish.
    Bake slow at 250\u00b0.
