Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. butter, softened
    2 c. sugar
    5 eggs, separated
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. coconut
    1 c. chopped walnuts
    Cream Cheese Frosting (recipe follows)
Preparation
    Beat shortening with butter and sugar until fluffy.
    Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well.
    Combine flour, salt and soda. Add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla.
    Stir in coconut and walnuts.
    Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Add to batter.
    Grease 3 round cake pans.
    Pour in batter. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
    Remove from the pans and cool.
    Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting.
    Sprinkle coconut on top.
