Tomato Rice Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. rice
    1 onion, sliced
    1 (12 to 14 oz.) can tomatoes
    1 tsp. bacon bits
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. celery
    1/2 c. green pepper
Preparation
    Put 2 cups of water in a 3-quart saucepan.
    Add rice, onion, green pepper, celery and salt.
    Bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat and cover.
    Simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
    Add bacon bits and tomatoes; stir well.
    Remove from heat and let set for 10 minutes to insure rice is done.
    Add 1 tablespoon butter, if desired.
