Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers, sliced
    6 medium onions, sliced
    2 green peppers, sliced
    1/3 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. white distilled vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Pour salt over sliced cucumbers, onions and green peppers. Cover with ice and soak 3 hours.
    Mix together, then drain.
    Set aside.
    In a large pan, mix sugar, vinegar, turmeric and celery and mustard seeds together and bring just to a boil, but do not boil.
    Add to cucumber mixture, then pack into sterile jars and seal.
    Yields 8 pints.
