Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium head lettuce, shredded
    1 c. coarsely chopped celery
    1 c. coarsely chopped bell pepper
    1 c. coarsely chopped red onion
    1/2 c. bacon bits
    1 can LeSueur peas
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 1/2 c. mayonnaise
    2 1/2 c. shredded cheese
Preparation
    Arrange lettuce in bottom of deep large bowl.
    Layer the following ingredients:
    celery, green bell pepper, onions and peas.
    Do not toss.
    Spread mayonnaise over the peas.
    Sprinkle with sugar and then cheese.
    Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.
    Toss and sprinkle with bacon bits just before serving.
