Cherry Trifle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. (2 1/4 or 3 oz.) egg custard mix
    sponge cake, cubed (about 6 c.)*
    1/3 c. sweet sherry
    1 can (21 or 22 oz.) cherry pie filling
    1/4 c. slivered almonds, toasted
    sweetened whipped cream
Preparation
    Prepare custard mix according to package directions.
    Chill until set. Beat custard with a rotary beater until smooth.
