Crusty Dill Spears - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    oil for frying
    2/3 c. yellow cornmeal
    6 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. garlic powder
    1/2 c. milk
    2 Tbsp. dill pickle liquid
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    4 medium dill pickles, cut into spears or about 16 spears, well drained
Preparation
    Heat 1 inch oil in heavy skillet to 400\u00b0.
    In bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder and garlic powder; stir in milk, pickle juice and egg.
    Dip pickles in batter to coat.
    Fry in small batches, 2 minutes or until brown, turning once.
    Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
    Makes 16 spears.
