Gin'S Halfway Chocolates - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
    1 egg, separated (use white for topping)
    1 1/2 tsp. water
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate bits
Preparation
    Heat oven to 375\u00b0.
    Grease 12x8x2 inch baking dish.
    Sift first 4 ingredients together.
    Set aside.
    Mix shortening with sugars until very light and fluffy.
    Add egg yolk, water, vanilla; mix well.
    Thoroughly mix in flour mixture.
    Pat into baking dish; top with chocolate bits.
