Great Grandmother'S Gingerbread Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. molasses
    1 tsp. soda
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 tsp. ginger
Preparation
    In a saucepan, beat molasses and sugar until sugar melts.
    Add soda dissolved in 1 teaspoon warm water.
    Add the shortening and the spices.
    Add enough flour to make dough stiff.
    Roll out on a lightly floured surface until 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut with cookie cutter or knife.
    Bake pieces for 10 minutes at the most.
    These burn very easily so keep an eye on the oven and the clock.
    If cookies are too hard, put in a cookie jar with several pieces of dried fruit.
