Ingredients

4 1/4 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. melted butter
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
cooking oil
sugar
Preparation

Sift together dry ingredients.
Beat together eggs.
Add 1 cup sugar until light.
Add butter, milk and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients all at once, stirring just until smooth.
(Dough is very soft.)
Knead dough lightly on floured surface.
Roll out dough 3/8-inch thick.
Cut with floured doughnut cutter.
Fry doughnuts in hot cooking oil (370\u00b0) until golden brown, turning once.
Drain on paper towels.
Roll doughnuts in sugar.
Makes 2 dozen.
