Blonde Brownies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. brown sugar
    1/3 c. butter or shortening
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate, lemon or caramel chips
Preparation
    Measure sifted flour and sift with baking powder, soda and salt.
    Add nuts and mix well.
    Set aside.
    Melt shortening in saucepan; remove from heat.
    Add sugar; mix well.
    Cool slightly. Add egg and vanilla; blend.
    Then add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    Spread in greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Sprinkle chips over top.
    Bake in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 25 minutes.
    Cool in pan.
    Cut into bars.
