Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 qt. (40 to 50) cucumbers, sliced
1/2 c. salt
4 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. turmeric (optional)
2 Tbsp. mustard seed
2 qt. onions, sliced
1 qt. vinegar
1 Tbsp. celery seed
1 Tbsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. white pepper (optional)
Preparation

Gently stir salt into cucumbers with ice cubes.
Let stand 2 to 3 hours or until cucumbers are crisp and cold.
Add more ice when melted.
Drain and add onions.
Mix remaining ingredients and bring quickly to a boil; Add cucumber mixture and bring to boiling; boil 5 to 7 minutes or to desired crispness.
Yield:
about 8 pints.
