Grandma Plempel'S Date And Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. water
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
1 beaten egg
1 pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 scant tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. chopped walnuts
20 maraschino cherries

Preparation

Dissolve baking soda in boiling water; pour over chopped dates.
Let set awhile.
Cream margarine, sugar, egg, salt and vanilla.
Add date mixture, flour, cream of tartar and walnuts.
