Long Johns - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. milk
    1/3 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 c. warm water
    1 pkg. yeast
    1/3 c. soft shortening
    4 1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Scald milk; add sugar, salt and shortening to the milk and let cool.
    Add yeast to the water (the water must be boiled first or the yeast won't react).
    Proceed as with bread, adding 2 eggs and nutmeg; mix in a ball and let it rise until double in bulk.
    Knead down and roll to 1/3-inch thickness.
    Cut and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes.
    Deep fry at 375\u00b0.
    Frost with favorite frosting.
