Strawberry Pinwheel Shortcake - cooking recipe

4 c. sliced, fresh berries
2 to 3 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 Tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 to 1/2 c. milk
1 Tbsp. butter or oleo, melted
1/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
whipped cream
Preparation

Combine sliced berries and sugar, stirring gently.
Chill 1 to 2 hours.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Gradually add enough milk to form a soft dough, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 4 or 5 times.
Roll the dough into an 11 x 8-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
