Onion Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 lb. onions
    1/2 c. salt
    crushed ice
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. white vinegar
    2 tsp. celery salt
    1 tsp. dry mustard
    2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Slice onions.
    Layer onions, salt and ice in 3 layers.
    Let stand 2 hours.
    Squeeze hard to remove ice, salt and water.
    Do not wash.
    Mix thoroughly sugar, vinegar, and spices.
    Bring to a hard boil, then add onions.
    Again, bring to a hard boil for 3 minutes.
    Pour into hot jars and seal.
    Yields 6 pints.
