Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 large cucumbers
    6 onions
    1 pt. white vinegar
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions thin.
    Put in a plastic or china bowl in layers.
    Sprinkle salt between the layers, light on salt. Cover with a plate and weight it down with a heavy object.
    Let stand for 1 hour or overnight.
    Rinse and drain.
    Put all in a big pan and stir to mix.
    Simmer for a few minutes.
    Stir often.
    Put hot into pint jars (scalded) and put airtight lids on jars.
