Connecticut Supper - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large onions, sliced
    2 Tbsp. Crisco
    2 lb. beef chuck, cubed in 1-inch cubes
    1 c. water
    3 large potatoes, sliced 1/8-inch thick
    1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 c. sour cream
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 c. grated Cheddar cheese
    1/2 c. crushed wheat flake cereal
Preparation
    Brown onions in fat.
    Add meat and water, cover and simmer 50 minutes.
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Pour beef into 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
    Place potato slices over meat.
    Mix soup, milk, sour cream, salt and pepper.
    Pour evenly over potatoes.
    Sprinkle with cheese and cereal.
    Bake, uncovered, 1 1/2 hours.
