Pickled Onions - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium onions
    1 c. salt
    2 qt. water
    12 whole black peppers
    1 small clove garlic (optional)
    1 c. white vinegar
Preparation
    Peel and slice onions paper thin.
    Dissolve salt in water; soak onions 1 hour.
    Remove to colander; wash well.
    Add black peppers.
    Put in quart jar; cover with vinegar.
    Add garlic (if desired).
    Seal.
