San Francisco Sourdough French Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sourdough starter
    1 1/2 c. warm water
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    5 to 6 c. all-purpose flour
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Combine starter, water, sugar and 3 cups flour in a large nonmetal mixing bowl.
    Cover with plastic wrap or a towel; let stand at room temperature 12 hours or overnight.
    Combine salt, soda and 1 cup flour.
    Stir into dough; beat until smooth.
    Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
