Dorothy'S Apple Pie Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. sugar
    3/4 c. cornstarch
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. lemon juice
    5 1/2 to 6 lb. tart apples, peeled, sliced and cored
    1 tsp. salt
    1 stick margarine
    10 c. water
Preparation
    In large saucepan blend first 4 ingredients and 1 teaspoon salt.
    Stir in 10 cups water; cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
    Add lemon juice, pack apples into hot jars, leaving 1 inch headspace to help distribute syrup.
    Process in cold packer 15 minutes for pints and 20 minutes for quarts.
    Makes 6 quarts. Bake pie at 350\u00b0 for 50 minutes.
