Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
2 oz. red food coloring
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 Tbsp. vinegar
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add well beaten eggs and vanilla. Mix flour, salt and cocoa together.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Dissolve baking soda in vinegar.
Fold into batter.
Add food coloring.
Bake in a greased and floured pan at 350\u00b0 for about 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when placed in the middle of cake.
