Congo Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    2/3 c. shortening
    2 c. brown sugar
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts
    1 c. chocolate chips
    3/4 c. chopped dates (optional)
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Cream the shortening and sugar.
    Beat until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
    Add vanilla. On low speed, mix in dry ingredients.
    Stir in nuts, chips and dates.
    Pour into a 13 x 9-inch pan.
    Bake 25 to 30 minutes.
