Noel Cookie Gems - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. soda
1/4 c. sour cream
1 1/4 c. finely chopped nuts or jam/jelly/preserves

Preparation

Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
Grease sheets.
In a large bowl, combine shortening, egg, sugar and vanilla.
Mix well.
Blend in dry ingredients. Add to sugar mixture alternately with sour cream. Mix well.
Shape into 1 to 1 1/4-inch balls. Roll in nuts, if used.
Place 1-inch apart on greased sheet.
Press thumb in center of each cookie.
Fill with jam, jelly, preserves or cherry.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly browned.
